The medium is the message.

Most decks and presentations are still designed for conference rooms. That’s not where they live anymore.

They live in email inboxes and on Zoom calls. They get forwarded to someone who wasn’t in the meeting, skimmed in the time it takes to order a coffee, and read at arm’s length on a six-inch screen with no presenter in sight.

Instead of just PowerPoint and Slides, they’re designed in Figma, Claude, and Codex, the same tools designers and engineers use to craft responsive experiences for mobile and web.

Narratives have to assume that the presenter won’t be in the room.

Marshall McLuhan famously said that the medium is the message. Presentations might be the last format that hasn’t taken that seriously. The room a deck is built for and the room it’s actually read in are rarely the same.

We’ve started designing for both.
